Nadege
I am Nadege Oriska. I live in Haiti. I am in university where I am studying Business.
I am going to describe to you my whole day.
First of all, when I get up in the morning I thank to God for the good night and after that I start with the necessary things like brush my teeth and take a shower. Sometimes I eat breakfast before I go to school; usually I don’t pack any lunch I always eat first or don’t eat anything.
Usually I walk 10 minutes from the house to the tap-tap (taxi) station to go to school. I always leave the house earlier because I don’t want to be late at school, even if my school is only 15 minutes in taxi from my house. I have class every day except Wednesday.
When I have two teachers for the day it could take more than five hours in class and then more time to study and do my homework. I enjoy most of my classes because I appreciate spending my time with the other students. We work together and try to help each other. We have team work and have fun together when we study. I can say that sometimes it’s difficult but not all the time because I am always part of a team and I enjoy working with them. One of my favorite classes is Accounting because I really like understanding the financial statements and the accounting equations.
After school, I go home and I’m usually hungry and once I get home I cook dinner for the house if it’s my day of cooking. I can prepare a lot of different foods since I went to a cooking school. I can say I’m a chef! I can cook almost everything but my favorite is rice and beans with fish, spaghetti and corn. After dinner I take time to study and do some homework. I don’t really have any hobbies or do things for fun since most of the time I need to take advantage of the time to do my work. We only have electricity until midnight so it’s important for me to study during the day. Sometimes I would like to watch TV but we don’t have one in our student house.
We also have computer classes. These are very helpful to me and very important because before I knew nothing about computers. Now I can say I have learned so much! I also take English classes every Saturday at Haitian American Institute.
Every month we have to go to DINEPA and pay for water, go to EDH and pay for electricity and buy gas for cooking at the house. It’s the responsibility of the House Manager to get the money from the Program manager for that and my task is to go and pay those institutions but sometimes the manager does that by his own.
I want to tell you how this scholarship has changed my life but I am scared that you will not understand. I don’t have enough words. Thanks to the members of BRIDGE SCHOLARSHIP for making me what I am today and what I will be tomorrow. It was a pleasure for me to describe a little part of my day and share it with you!
